Brawa 67257 Kesselwagen Zas-w, DR, Ep.IV Product Details

Description

About the model: BRAWA presents the KVG tank car Uia from Era IV. The car was manufactured on a scale of 1:160 and, despite its small size, impresses with its detailed appearance, with the finest lettering on a paint scheme appropriate to the era. The model has a length of 102 mm.

About the prototype: In the 1970s, the factories of the GDR wagon construction industry produced almost exclusively for export. The DR therefore had to look elsewhere to replace the aging wagon fleet and to have more vehicles available for the increased transportation tasks. This was partially remedied by the production of new wagons in its own workshops, but this technology was not suitable for special wagons. At the beginning of the 1970s, the Ministry of Foreign Trade succeeded in concluding extensive compensation deals with France, as a result of which around 20,000 new freight wagons of various types were delivered. Among these, 1250 four-axle mineral oil tank wagons were delivered from 1975 onwards, which were classified under the documentation number 8105 and the class Uahs. Their number range began at 727 0000. The wagon had a welded underframe made of St 52-3 without a central longitudinal beam with type Y25Cs bogies and a split draw gear. The five-bay container made of 7 mm sheet steel (9 mm in the floor area) had a volume of 85150 liters and thus allowed full utilization of the maximum permissible wheelset load of 20 tonnes at the time. The air brake of the KE-GP type with brake slack adjuster and mechanical load braking was supplemented by a platform-operated hand brake and corresponded to the state of the art at the time. The wagons were mainly used in block trains and were primarily used to transport fuels such as petrol and diesel. After reunification, this type of wagon was the most frequently used tank wagon at DB.
