Brawa 70068 steam locomotive 001 180-9, DB, Ep.VI, museum locomotive Product Details

Description

About the model: The DB Class 001 express locomotive, museum locomotive is an H0 model from the BRAWA brand and comes from Era VI. The locomotive shines with a prototypical look and numerous features that make this model a real highlight. The model has interior lighting and has been prepared for retrofitting both a smoke generator and a sound decoder. In addition to technical features, the locomotive also impresses with fine details, such as a prototypical standing boiler rear wall and die-cast zinc spoke wheels.

Note on the minimum radius of the BR 01: The model of the BR 01 steam locomotive is technically suitable for operation with a minimum radius of R 360 mm. For optimum running characteristics, use from R 420 mm is recommended.

About the prototype: The German Federal Railroad equipped 50 class 01 locomotives with the so-called type I high-performance boiler starting in 1958. The boiler type designed according to the principles of Friedrich Witte had already been successfully installed on the class 01.10 Bundesbahn locomotives.

With a value of 1:8.8, the fully welded boiler had a significantly better ratio of radiant to tubular heating surface (old boiler 1:13.54), which was mainly achieved by the built-in combustion chamber. In figures, this is 54 m² less evaporation surface in the high-performance boiler, which was compensated for by an 18 kg/m²h greater heating surface load. This made it possible to achieve the same boiler output with significantly lower fuel consumption.

Visually, the locomotives looked much more modern and tidier as a result of the conversion to the high-performance boiler, and were given some adjustments to ensure occupational safety. The lines followed a clearer layout. The sandbox at the top of the boiler disappeared. The circulation apron gave way to a wide circulation plate and handle bars were integrated into the wind deflector plates.

Technically, the Knorr surface preheater was replaced by a type 57 mixed preheater system. The 01 217 and 223 locomotives were fitted with roller bearings in the driving and coupling rods on a trial basis, similar to the BR 01.10. Operationally, the locomotives continued to be used together in rosters with old boiler locomotives from traditional railroad depots. Only with the discontinuation of steam locomotive maintenance at the Hof depot in 1973 did the use of both 01 variants by the DB come to an end.
