The Brawa 70099 H0 steam locomotive 02 003 is a faithful reproduction of the legendary express locomotive of the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft (DRG) from Era II, specially developed for operation with 3-wire alternating current (AC). With a built-in sound decoder and numerous technical highlights, this model will delight both collectors and passionate model train operators.
In the 1920s, the DRG developed the class 02 as a four-cylinder compound locomotive. Its purpose was to compare its performance with that of the two-cylinder class 01. Locomotive 02 003 was one of the ten locomotives built and was assigned to the Erfurt Railway Directorate, Erfurt P depot. Despite its high performance, the 02 series was not developed further, as the complex compound technology proved to be maintenance-intensive. Later, all locomotives of the class were converted into the more successful class 01, which laid the foundation for the German express train era.
For decades, the Brawa company has stood for outstanding model railroads that impress both visually and technically. The 02 003 steam locomotive in H0 is another example of the high quality and precision with which Brawa recreates historical railroad vehicles. Each model is manufactured with great care to ensure a perfect combination of attention to detail and operational reliability.
The model of steam locomotive 02 003 impresses with its many authentic details. The boiler, driver's cab and tender are made of finely detailed plastic parts, while the openwork ingot frame and the spoked wheels are made of die-cast zinc. The driver's cab is illuminated and the period-appropriate lighting ensures a realistic representation. The locomotive has close-coupling kinematics between the locomotive and tender, which ensures a prototypical distance. Finely crafted steps and steps, filigree metal driving and coupling rods as well as a true-to-original standing boiler rear wall are further highlights.
Drive is via the tender, which contributes to optimum running characteristics. A single axle bearing in metal and the built-in flywheel mass guarantee smooth and stable running. The built-in sound decoder from Döhler & Haass provides realistic steam locomotive sounds and ensures an impressive acoustic driving experience. The model also has functions such as flickering fire and engine lighting, which are included in the Digital EXTRA version.
The model has a length over buffers of 259.1 mm and is designed for a minimum radius of 360 mm, whereby operation from 420 mm is recommended for optimum driving characteristics. The PluX22 interface makes it easy to retrofit or replace the decoder. The two-light headlights change automatically depending on the direction of travel. The locomotive is equipped with an NEM coupling shaft with close coupling kinematics. The model is prepared to accept a Seuthe No. 20 smoke generator for additional effects. The interior lighting and the lighting elements are based on long-life LEDs that guarantee maintenance-free use.
Era II covers the period from 1920 to 1945 and stands for the rise of the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft and the development of powerful express locomotives. The class 02 is a defining symbol of this period, as it contributed significantly to the later development of the iconic class 01. The DRG locomotives of this era were equipped with striking technical innovations and an unmistakable look, which are also perfectly reproduced in this model.
The Brawa 70099 H0 steam locomotive 02 003 is an enrichment for every model railroad layout that depicts historical scenarios of Era II. With its detailed design, many technical functions and high-quality workmanship, this model is ideal for collectors and operators. The combination of authentic design and state-of-the-art technology makes the locomotive a real highlight on any layout.
