The Brawa 70160 H0 steam locomotive BR 44 of the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) shows locomotive 44 1153 as it was in 1967 - an impressive standard freight locomotive with a closed center skirt, small high-mounted wind deflectors and characteristic DR details. This model combines prototypical technology, the finest detailing and robust running characteristics for use on 2-L direct current layouts.
The model is produced on a scale of 1:87 for H0 gauge and measures 261 mm over buffers. It is intended for the 2-wire direct current system (DC) and is not digitized, but has a PluX22 interface for retrofitting decoder or sound functions. The locomotive has LED lighting with light change in white and interior lighting.
The drive is in the tender for smooth and powerful running characteristics. A close coupler between the locomotive and tender as well as a scenery-guided standard shaft at the tender end provide for realistic train combinations. The locomotive is equipped with single axle bearings made of metal and a true-to-scale wheelbase - enabling reliable operation from a minimum radius of 360 mm.
The BR 44 has a detailed and movable internal engine with two crank axles, Wagner wind deflectors and a 2'2' T30 tender. The prototypical condition of this locomotive is characterized by small high wind deflectors, lowered pumps and a closed central apron. The boiler, driver's cab and tender are made of finely detailed plastic components, while the openwork ingot frame and spoked wheels made of die-cast zinc as well as the metal driving and coupling rods offer outstanding model quality.
The class 44 was the backbone of heavy freight locomotives on the German rail network for decades. The 44 1153 was stationed at the Erfurtdepot in Saalfeld in the 1960s and proved itself on demanding routes. The typical features of this locomotive - such as high wind deflectors, closed center apron and oil or coal firing (depending on the operating condition) - are faithfully reproduced in the model.
With this class 44 you get a technically mature, visually sophisticated and prototypical steam locomotive - ideal for heavy freight trains, shunting services or demanding operational scenarios on your H0 layout.
