In 1912, the Royal Bavarian State Railways began electrifying the first lines. Two locomotives were developed that differed fundamentally from the previous electric locomotives: instead of the usual rod drive, they were equipped with a single-axle drive in which each driving axle had its own electric motor. The machines were delivered in 1914 and 1915 by Krauss (technical vehicle part) and Bergmanns Elektrische Werke (electrical part) and stationed in Freilassing.
