Nothing ventured, nothing gained! The design of the 57 Bel Air dates back to 1953, when it was still considered too "daring". Chevrolet pursued a rather cautious model policy in this matter. The predecessor models of the years 55 and 56 actually looked rather staid in comparison to the independent 57, but the broad lines were retained. The hardtop coupé of the Two-Ten series of the 1952 model year already bore the nickname "Bel Air", which was then used a year later for its own series with serial number 2400C. Even at the time of its appearance, the Bel Air was considered to be Chevrolet's absolute top model. With many extras such as: Air conditioning, power steering, power pump and automatic transmission, from 1955 even with a V8 engine, the Bel Air could be equipped. In addition to the two- and four-door saloon, coupé and estate, it was also available as a convertible with a fabric roof or as a hardtop version. With this model, Chevrolet hit the bull's eye when it came to the fashion tastes of the time. The 57 model was particularly chic with its tail fin, which is still very popular with classic car enthusiasts today. The fact that the car also offered a lot of space and was very economical in terms of fuel consumption gave the Bel-Air an exact sales figure of 702,226 units. As the basic version of the hatchback also cost between 2,239 and 3,465 US dollars, the vehicle was also very reasonably priced compared to competitor models. The 1:87 model of the Bel Air is also available in many variants and thus enriches the collecting scene with beautiful, color-harmonious miniatures.
