With the 48310 H0 Mercedes-Benz SSKL, this highly detailed model brings a piece of motorsport history to your model railroad layout or display case. It depicts the white race car with start number 8, which Rudolf Caracciola drove to victory on June 19, 1931, on the legendary Nordschleife of the Nürburgring. The model is an exact replica of the victorious Mercedes at the German Grand Prix—one of the most impressive races of the pre-war era.
Due to the Great Depression, the 1931 German Grand Prix was not counted as an official Grand Prix race of the season. Instead, the Automobile Club of Germany (A.v.D.) developed its own set of rules. The race was divided into two groups: vehicles with engines over 1,100 cm³ drove 22 laps (508.77 km), while vehicles with engines between 500 and 1,100 cm³ completed 18 laps (410.58 km). It was noteworthy that co-drivers were still permitted to serve as mechanics—a relic from the early days of motorsports.
The Mercedes-Benz SSKL (“Super-Sport-Kurz-Leicht”) was the most powerful variant of the famous SSK series and a technical masterpiece of its time.
