Lada (German for "the beloved" / "sweetheart"). The Awto WAS (Volga Automobile Plant), a state-owned automobile factory based in Togliatti, Russia, produced the Shiguli or Lada 2101 (export name) model based on the Fiat 124. 200,000 units of the 60 hp Lada rolled off the production line in the first year of production and the former cult vehicle of the GDR can still be found on the roads today.
