The basic type of a large range of commercial vehicles in the 5 t payload class from Ludwigsfelde was the W50L platform truck. Built since 1965 and constantly further developed, the 2-axle front-wheel-drive vehicle proved its worth with domestic and foreign customers. Vehicles with extended cabs were used on tours where additional accompanying personnel were required, e.g. for loading activities. The 4-seater forwarding cab was also suitable for driver training. Equipped with a second steering wheel for the driving instructor, there was also space for additional learner drivers or the driving examiner. The prototype for the model is a vehicle in the driving school version of the Halle professional fire department. Combined with the matching HL80 trailer in this set. Driving with trailers also had to be learned as part of the truck driving training. The HL80 represents a typical trailer of the W50.
