The basic type of a large range of commercial vehicles in the 5 t payload class from Ludwigsfelde was the W50L platform truck. Built since 1965 and constantly further developed, the 2-axle front-wheel drive vehicle proved its worth with domestic and foreign customers.
In 1983, the ABE (general operating license) was issued for the all-wheel-drive flatbed vehicle with the reinforced flatbed. This vehicle version was primarily used by the armed forces as a towing vehicle and transport vehicle for material and people. The replica vehicle was used by the Barnimer Busgesellschaft (BBG) as a service vehicle. It was used both for winter service and to provide assistance in the event of technical problems with the bus fleet.
