With the ESU 31035 H0 electric locomotive 151 070, ESU brings a technical masterpiece of Era IV to the model tracks. This heavy freight locomotive embodies a time when the German Federal Railroad set new standards in fast freight transport. The prototype, created at the end of the 1960s, is still a symbol of performance, reliability and versatility today - and has been converted into model form by ESU with the highest standards of technology, sound and attention to detail.
The class 151 was born out of the need to develop a powerful locomotive for fast freight trains. Based on components of the class 103 and the multi-system locomotives of the class 181/184, a six-axle locomotive was created which, in addition to freight trains, could also haul local and push-pull trains as well as express trains in the low mountain ranges. The 151 070 in chrome oxide green paintwork shows the condition around 1988 - a time when the locomotive was an integral part of everyday life on the DB.
ESU has equipped the 151 in this version with a newly designed metal frame and a quiet, powerful bell-type armature motor with flywheel. The LokSound 5 decoder with support for DCC, Motorola®, M4 and Selectrix® ensures optimum control. Switching between DC and AC operation is carried out safely using a slide switch in the locomotive base - ideal for model railroaders with mixed systems.
A large loudspeaker with sound capsule provides a voluminous sound - supplemented by sensor-controlled curve squealing at slow speed. The lighting functions include start-up lamps, engine room, driver's desk and driver's cab lighting, all of which can be switched digitally. The result is an impressive, lively locomotive model that reproduces realistic operating conditions.
The running gear enables a new, continuous engine room with multi-colored design and a view through - a highlight for all those who value the interior. Sprung buffers, precise engravings and digitally controllable roof pantographs round off the high-quality appearance. The chrome oxide green paintwork takes the locomotive back to the heyday of Era IV.
