The ESU 31412 diesel locomotive 362 873 is a successful replica of the three-axle shunting locomotives of the German Federal Railroad (DB) in Era IV. In the 1950s, the DB planned to modernize its shunting service and opted for a robust three-axle shunting locomotive with coupling rod drive and blind shaft. A coal-fired Dofa furnace, which was later replaced by electrically operated equipment, was responsible for keeping the locomotives warm. Externally, the shunting locomotives were equipped with Indus magnets and automatic couplings. From 1968, the light locomotives were given the designation BR 260, while the heavier ones were designated BR 261. In the late 1980s, they were redesignated as the 360 and 361 series and assigned to the DB shunting staff.
The ESU 362 873 impresses with a sturdy metal frame and a precise reproduction of the long front end. Thanks to the engraved light guides, these details are shown to their best advantage. The model also offers over 31 switchable special functions and is equipped with a PowerPack storage capacitor, which ensures an uninterrupted power supply.
