With the ESU 31438 H0 KG230 V19 diesel locomotive in the BP (British Petroleum) livery, ESU presents a detailed model of a tried and tested Era V works locomotive. The prototype condition around 2005 reflects the advanced but well-kept use in the industrial environment. The green-painted locomotive, once part of the versatile Deutz small locomotive family, is an indispensable part of any realistic industrial or refinery layout - whether on the layout or in the display case.
From 1962, Deutz offered the KG230 B as a robust alternative to the Köf III. The air-cooled 12-cylinder Deutz A12 L 714 engine with 230 hp became the driving force in numerous factory and port facilities. Variants for potentially explosive atmospheres were equipped with water-cooled six-cylinder engines. Thanks to their modular design, adaptable weight and high stability, many of these locomotives remained in use for decades - even at well-known companies such as BP.
The BP locomotive "V19" impresses in the model with finely perforated fan grilles, separate steps, free-standing grab rails and a multi-colored driver's cab. A bell-type armature motor with flywheel mass ensures smooth running, while a LokSound 5 decoder provides the authentic engine sound - digitized with both air and water cooling. The synchronous smoke generator and the universal AC/DC use via slide switch offer flexibility and atmosphere at the same time.
The ESU 31438 is equipped with digitally height-adjustable shunting couplers - ideal for realistic coupling operations. A PowerPack capacitor ensures an uninterrupted power supply, even for short track sections. Light functions such as cab, driver's desk, shunting and running gear lighting as well as brake sparks for hard braking are also integrated. The train-side head signal can be switched off separately if required.
At just 92.3 mm long, the locomotive is ideal for compact industrial or factory scenarios. The green BP paint scheme with yellow contrasting elements gives it an unmistakable character and makes it an eye-catcher on any layout. A train driver figure, two types of aerials and a pipette for filling the smoke generator are included.
