With the ESU 36600 or Pullman/ESU 36600, you’ll receive a two-car Sgmmns-type freight car set in Era VI, clearly modeled after real-world examples from modern container transport. With the existing 60-foot Sgns 60 units in the fleet, the middle compartment would have had to be left empty when loading them with spoil dumpsters. Since there were sufficient AAE carrier cars available for transporting standard containers, the decision was made to shorten older Sgns 60 cars and return them to service as Sgmmns 173 with a useful length of only 40 feet. AAE thus had more than 100 cars converted.
The four-axle cars can each carry one 40-foot or 30-foot container, or two 20-foot containers. The new cars were initially used for construction site logistics around the Stuttgart 21 project, when trains transported excavated material to Amsdorf in Saxony-Anhalt, among other destinations. Since several sets were no longer needed for construction site traffic, the short four-axle cars are now being used to transport standard containers. It is precisely this background that makes the set particularly interesting, as it depicts a freight car that was developed to meet a specific logistical need and thus occupies a unique position in modern freight transport.

All Pullman cars are shipped from the factory with DC wheel sets. These are designed so that the cars can also be operated on most Märklin C and K tracks. After removing the roof, the two track halves can even be bridged using a wire so that feedback sensors function properly. If derailments occur on older Märklin tracks or if the handling when passing through turnouts is unsatisfactory, the wheel sets can be replaced at any time, at your discretion, with AC wheel sets featuring a higher flange profile. Item No. 41201 is listed as a suitable AC wheel set. A free wheel set exchange is not possible.
