The PowerPack MiniXS is equipped with an energy storage unit with a capacity of 6 × 0.22 farads, which ensures effective buffering of all important locomotive functions. This keeps lights, sound, and motor operation active even during brief interruptions in the power supply. Depending on the locomotive’s power consumption, the energy storage unit enables a running time of up to 1.5 seconds without an external power supply—a valuable aid on track sections that could be problematic due to contamination or longer switch points.
The PowerPack MiniXS is equipped with a microcontroller (MCU) that intelligently controls the energy storage unit’s charging and discharging process. This technology allows the PowerPack to remain in the locomotive during programming without interfering with programming mode. Additionally, the microcontroller automatically adjusts the output voltage to match the track voltage, which prevents light flickering and thus improves the quality of operation on the layout. The buffer time can be limited via a CV setting on the decoder, which supports precise stopping at red signals.
The PowerPack MiniXS is compatible with all fifth-generation ESU decoders, including LokSound 5, LokPilot 5, and LokPilot 5 Basic. Installation is simple and requires only a 3-pin cable connection between the decoder and the PowerPack. Thanks to its compact design, measuring just 25.5 mm x 4.5 mm x 13.5 mm, the module can be easily integrated into many models. Its small footprint allows the PowerPack to be installed even in tight locomotive housings.
Thanks to the integrated charging circuit, the charging process of the PowerPack MiniXS is controlled, ensuring consistent and efficient charging. The charging current is limited to prevent overloads and excessive strain on the digital command station or booster. This is particularly advantageous when multiple locomotives are operated simultaneously on the layout using a single PowerPack, as it ensures a stable power supply.
