Apron mail coach, type Post 4üe, of the German Federal Post Office, discontinued by the German Federal Railroad

Following the construction of test coaches in 1936-38, the DRG put streamlined express train coaches into service. Windows and doors were completely flush with the outer wall of the car, the side walls were extended beyond the actual end of the car and pulled down between the bogies. The "apron coaches" thus achieved a significant reduction in air resistance. The Reichspost and MITROPA also ordered wagons in the new design.
