Description

The two-cylinder engines of the 01 series are considered the first express locomotives to be built according to the standardized construction program. The first construction lots were equipped with leading wheels with a diameter of 800 mm and approved for 120 km/h. From 01 102 onwards, leading wheels with a diameter of 1,000 mm and reinforced brakes were used, which allowed the maximum permitted speed to be increased to 130 km/h.The great era of the 01 series began with the 1934 summer timetable. The services operated in those years were a challenge for the machines and the staff. After the Second World War, they were only achieved again by electric locomotives and large diesel locomotives.Henschel delivered locomotive 01 161 to the Hanover depot in 1935, which operated the east-west Hamm-Magdeburg main line and the north-south main line to Hamburg and Kassel from the center.
