About the model: The class 65 steam locomotive is a German Federal Railroad model and is from Era III. The locomotive is 97 mm long (length over buffers) and the minimum radius that can be traveled is 192 mm. The model is driven by 4 axles and 1 is equipped with traction tires. About the prototype: The class 65 was part of the new construction program of the German Federal Railroad and was first delivered in 1951. The characteristic appearance gives the locomotive both a powerful and elegant look. Its preferred area of operation as a passenger train tender locomotive was suburban and light rail traffic in the Ruhr area as well as on the Odenwaldbahn and the Überwaldbahn. Some of the locomotives were later equipped with reversible train control. The 18 locomotives reached a maximum speed of 85 km/h with an output of 1,089 kW. The last locomotive went into the sidings in 1972.
