Are you looking for a powerful steam locomotive for authentic freight train services on the Deutsche Reichsbahn? The heavy freight locomotive 44 0104-8 brings the robust elegance of Era IV to your N scale layout with its oil firing, striking wind deflectors and the finest detailing - perfect for realistic DR train layouts of the 1970s and 80s.
After the Second World War, the Deutsche Reichsbahn took over many class 44 locomotives and converted them to oil firing. These locomotives formed the backbone of heavy freight train operations in the GDR. They were also known as "jumbos" due to their enormous tractive power. Locomotive 44 0104-8 was stationed in the Saalfeld depot under the Erfurt station and was used until 1986.
Fleischmann has produced this locomotive in typical DR design: with high-set cowl plates, smokebox door with central locking, pumps at the front and fine printing. The central driving axle is fitted with reduced wheel flanges, which ensures better running characteristics. Particularly noteworthy is the clear view between the boiler and the running gear, which emphasizes the filigree appearance.
The locomotive has a 3-pole motor, two driven axles, two traction tires and is equipped with a Next18 interface for subsequent digitization. The LED headlights change depending on the direction of travel. Coupling is via NEM 355 with close-coupling kinematics and sliding guide between locomotive and tender.
The Fleischmann 7160028 BR 44 0104-8 brings GDR freight train atmosphere to your layout in a detailed design. Now available in the model railroad store - for impressive train performance in Era IV!
