Are you looking for a classic steam locomotive for your N-gauge model railroad layout that captures the special charm of the early Deutsche Reichsbahn? The Fleischmann 7160045 DRG Class 38 Steam Locomotive No. 3713 captivates with its historic olive-green paint scheme and characteristic design without air deflectors.
This Era II model evokes a time of transition, when many steam locomotives already bore the lettering of the German Reichsbahn but were still operating in the older color schemes of the regional railway era. This makes the BR 38 3713 an interesting addition to historic passenger and express trains.
The prototype for the Class 38 traces back to the legendary Prussian passenger locomotive of the P8 class. It was developed to meet the growing demands of passenger and express train service and was one of the most successful German steam locomotive designs.
By 1923, German manufacturers alone had produced more than 3,700 units. The triple-coupled locomotives delivered 880 kW of power and could travel at speeds of up to 100 km/h forward and up to 50 km/h in reverse.
The Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft later classified these locomotives as the Class 38.10–40, and they remained in service for passenger transport for many years.
A particular eye-catcher of the Fleischmann 7160045 is its historic color scheme. While the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft gradually converted its steam locomotives to the well-known black-and-red color scheme, many locomotives retained their older olive-green, reddish-brown, and black paint scheme until around 1930.
The BR 38 3713 represents this interesting transitional phase. The boiler without air deflectors underscores the locomotive’s early appearance and makes it particularly attractive to collectors of Era II.
The Fleischmann model is designed for the analog DC system. Three powered axles provide propulsion, while two axles are equipped with traction tires.
The two-light headlight on the front of the locomotive complements its historic appearance. With a length over buffers of 122 mm and a minimum operating radius of 192 mm, the steam locomotive is also suitable for more compact N-gauge layouts.
The BR 38 3713 pairs particularly well with contemporary DRG passenger and baggage cars. This allows you to create authentic train formations from the 1920s.
Bring a piece of Prussian steam locomotive history to your model railroad layout! Get the Fleischmann 7160045 BR 38 3713 in the olive-green DRG livery and enrich your N-gauge collection with a distinctive Era II passenger locomotive.
