The BB 22200 is a French electric locomotive series for use on both the 1.5 kV electrified direct current network of the SNCF and the 25 kV 50 Hz electrified alternating current network. The design of the locomotives with the so-called "nez cassé" (broken nose) was created by the Frenchman Paul Arzens, who was responsible for the design of several SNCF locomotives at the time. Between 1976 and 1986, Alstom built a total of 205 locomotives in six series. From 1999, the locomotives were divided into the various divisions. The locomotives assigned to the freight division were given the grey/green/white FRET livery.
