The class 120 diesel locomotives, also known as the V 200, were procured by the Deutsche Reichsbahn of the GDR between 1966 and 1975 in a series of 378 units. These robust locomotives were based on the proven M 62 design from the Luhansk locomotive works in the Ukraine. With an output of 1,470 kW, they were optimally designed for heavy freight train services. The 120 272-0 was based at the Dresden depot and was used in the RBD Dresden region.
