Fleischmann 741103 Elektrischer railcar ET 91 01, DB, Ep. III Product Details

Description

About the model: The ET 91 01 "Transparent Train" electric powered rail car is a German Federal Railroad model and is from Era III. The analog model is powered by 2 axles and has 1 traction tire. All further details about this detailed model can be found under the features.

About the prototype: In order to make travel and excursion traffic more attractive again for the German population in the early 1930s, the German State Railroad Company (DRG) of that time decided to build a total of five observation railcars. At the time, it was important for the DRG to be able to stand up to the increasing competition from buses in excursion traffic. The aim when building the railcars was to provide all passengers with as clear and unobstructed a view of the landscape as possible. In addition to three diesel-hydraulic vehicles, two were also ordered for electric operation. H. Fuchs Waggonfabrik in Heidelberg was responsible for the mechanical part, while the electrical part was supplied by AEG, Berlin. Both railcars ET 91 01 and 02, which were given the illustrious name "Glass Train" by the locals, quickly established themselves with passengers. Popular excursions were the Karwendel round trip via Mittenwald to Innsbruck or the Alpine round trip via Salzburg, Bischofshofen and Kufstein to Munich.
