Description

The BB 22200 is a French electric locomotive series for use both on the SNCF's 1.5 kV electrified DC network and on the 25 kV 50 Hz electrified AC network. The design of the locomotives with the so-called "nez cassé" (broken nose) comes from the hand of the Frenchman Paul Arzens, who was responsible for the design of several SNCF locomotives at the time. Between 1976 and 1986, Alstom built a total of 205 locomotives in six series. Due to their multi-system capability and design as universal locomotives, the BB 22200s are used on almost all standard-gauge electrified lines in France in front of freight and passenger trains.
