Description

Fleischmann 7570042 N-gauge electric locomotive 230 003-6, DR, Era IV, DC sound: Dual-system locomotive with the latest technology

The Fleischmann 7570042 N-gauge electric locomotive 230 003-6 of the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) is a detailed replica of the innovative dual-system locomotive that was developed for cross-border traffic between the GDR and Czechoslovakia. With a high-quality sound decoder and digitally switchable light functions, this model combines technological precision with historical authenticity.

The prototype: The class 230 - progress for international rail traffic

In the 1980s, the Deutsche Reichsbahn commissioned the construction of dual-system locomotives in order to meet the increasing demands of international rail traffic. The locomotives had to be able to operate both the alternating current system of the GDR (15 kV/16.7 Hz) and the direct current system of Czechoslovakia (3 kV). Due to the full capacity utilization of the GDR locomotive factories, these locomotives were manufactured by Škoda, with the components for the alternating current system being supplied from the GDR.

The class 230 locomotives were developed on the basis of the Czechoslovakian ES 499.1 and 499.2 series. A total of 20 machines were built for the DR, which were used in cross-border freight and passenger services. With their robust design and innovative technical solutions, they were an important part of rail transport in Era IV.

Era IV: An era of change and innovation

Era IV (1965-1990) marked a time of technological progress and increasing international cooperation in rail transport. The introduction of the 230 series reflected this change, as it significantly simplified cross-border operations between the GDR and Czechoslovakia.

Technical features and equipment

The model of the 230 003-6 is a finely detailed new construction with numerous separately applied plug-in parts. The roof design includes authentic pantographs that realistically reproduce the characteristic appearance of the locomotive. In digital operation, the headlights and marker lights can be switched individually and the sound decoder provides realistic operating sounds such as starting, braking and signal noises.

With a Next18 interface, the model is optimally equipped for digital systems. The red/white light change depending on the direction of travel is realized by long-life LEDs. The locomotive is designed for operation on 2-wire direct current systems (DC) and offers excellent running characteristics, even on tight radii from 192 mm. With a length over buffers (LüP) of 105 mm, the locomotive is ideal for N-gauge layouts.

Design and workmanship

The locomotive impresses with its elaborate and prototypical design. The filigree pantographs, the detailed roof design and the separately applied plug-in parts underline the high quality of this model. The precise printing and careful workmanship make the 230 003-6 a highlight on any layout.

Care and maintenance

The model requires little maintenance, but should be cleaned regularly to remove dust and dirt. The moving parts and axles can be lightly oiled to ensure smooth operation. Thanks to the Next18 interface, it is easy to retrofit or replace a digital decoder.

Conclusion and purchase recommendation

The Fleischmann 7570042 N-gauge electric locomotive 230 003-6 with DC sound is an impressive model that authentically captures the technical and historical significance of the dual-system locomotive. With its detailed design, digital functions and high-quality sound decoder, this locomotive is a must for all model railroaders who want to realistically represent international rail traffic in Era IV.
