The Fleischmann 7760001 Class 602 gas turbine multiple unit brings a fascinating piece of German railroad history to your model railway layout. Originally developed from the VT 11.5 TEE multiple unit, the class 602 with its gas turbine drive marked a technological specialty of the 1970s. The distinctive air intakes in front of the driver's cab are characteristic and gave the trains a futuristic appearance. The class 602 gas turbine multiple units were created in the early 1970s as an attempt to overcome the performance limits of the VT 11.5. New standards were set with the conversion of four power cars to gas turbine drive, but these were not economically viable in the long term. Operation was expensive, vulnerable and was discontinued in 1978/79. One power car, the 602 003, has been preserved as a museum exhibit and can be admired today in the DB Museum in Nuremberg.
The model is designed for track systems with a minimum radius of 225 mm. It can be perfectly combined with other coaches from the TEE or Intercity series. It can be retrofitted with a suitable decoder for digital operation via the existing NEM 651 interface.
