Are you looking for a British tank car for your TT:120 layout that combines modern freight train formation with a distinctive oil transport look? The Hornby TT6087 TT Shell TEA Tanker Tank Car 87156, Era IV-V is a TEA bogie tanker car and is ideal for long, impressive freight trains pulled by British diesel locomotives.
The model was announced as part of the TT:120 new releases for July 2026 and is based on TEA tank cars, whose prototypes were built in the 1960s and 1970s. TT6087 features a Shell livery and bears the number SUKO 87156.
The car impresses with its highly detailed design, featuring an accurate tank shape, neatly reproduced sheet metal seams, and numerous separately attached parts. The detailed undercarriage and the etched metal walkways on the tank roof ensure a particularly prototypical appearance when operated in a freight train formation.
Thanks to the kinematic NEM coupler system, the car is ready for use on TT:120 layouts. The specified minimum radius is the second radius, allowing the model to be used even on more compact layouts.
The first TEA bogie tank cars for oil transport were built in the 1960s by the Standard Wagon Company and Charles Roberts & Co. Ltd. They were initially leased to oil companies and used to transport heavy oil from seaports to refineries and oil storage facilities.
A significant number of these cars were operated by Shell/BP, including this prototype with Shell lettering. Get the Hornby TT6087 TT Shell TEA Tanker 87156 and add a distinctive British tank car to your TT:120 layout for realistic oil and freight train themes.
