Prototype: Technical development and series production

The prototype of this wagon was developed in 1967 in the Česká Lípa wagon works and was based on ČSD's many years of experience with the Sa 26 and Sav 28 wagon models. Series production began in 1970 with a first batch of 1650 units. By 1982, the stock had grown to around 5650 vehicles, including 400 with protective roofs for weather-sensitive goods.
