The VT18.16 multiple units, later known as BR 175, are among the most striking vehicles of the Deutsche Reichsbahn in international passenger service. Manufactured by VEB Waggonbau Görlitz from 1963, they were intended for use on routes to Scandinavia, Austria and Czechoslovakia. Their best-known connection was the Vindobona train route, which ran via Prague to Vienna. Due to the length of Scandinavian rail ferries, these multiple units were reduced to two middle carriages for corresponding journeys. The last scheduled use as Vindobona was in 1979. In the early 1980s they still ran as Karlex and Karola to Karlovy Vary.
This model from Kato is designed for the 2L direct current system (DC) and is manufactured in N scale. The multiple unit has an LED light change in white/red that switches depending on the direction. The model is not digitized and does not have a sound function. The minimum radius is 228 mm, which allows realistic integration into standard N-gauge layouts.
The six coaches in this set reflect the representative power of the class 175 in Era IV - an era in which DR long-distance trains caused an international sensation. With their streamlined design and superior interior comfort, these multiple units were a highlight of GDR railroad history and are popular collector's items in the model railway segment today.
The set includes a 6-car DR class 175 multiple unit train in N scale with LED light change.
