The VT18.16 multiple units of the Deutsche Reichsbahn (later BR 175) were the flagship of international rail transportation in the GDR. Built from 1963 by VEB Waggonbau Görlitz, these elegant multiple units were used on international routes - such as the legendary Vindobona train run between Berlin, Prague and Vienna. Further journeys were made to Czechoslovakia, Scandinavia and Austria. This 6-part model set in N scale from Kato shows the BR 175 in Era IV condition - including modern digital and sound technology.
The model is designed for the 2L direct current system (DC) and is supplied in N scale. It is digitized at the factory (DCC compatible) and equipped with a sound function that simulates the original engine and train sounds. The white/red light changes automatically and depending on the direction using long-life LEDs. The train is designed for a minimum radius of 228 mm and can therefore also be used on smaller model railway layouts.
The class 175 was the DR's flagship in international long-distance transportation for many years. With its eye-catching design and modular construction, it was ideal for cross-border use. The last use as Vindobona was in 1979, later the trains ran as Karlex and Karola to Karlsbad - an era that is impressively brought back to the model railroad with this model.
The set includes a 6-car DR class 175 multiple unit in N scale with factory-installed DCC digital technology and integrated sound function.
