The VT18.16 multiple units, later known as BR 175, were prestige items of the Deutsche Reichsbahn and were built from 1963 by VEB Waggonbau Görlitz for international long-distance services. Their best-known use was the Vindobona train route, which connected Prague and Vienna. The trains were also used in the direction of Scandinavia and Austria and became icons of the Eastern Bloc on the rails. This model variant in N scale represents the modernized Era VI version as it is currently being refurbished by SVT Görlitz gGmbH for special trips - planned recommissioning: 2025.
The model is designed in N scale (1:160) and is suitable for the 2L direct current system (DC). It has a factory-installed DCC digital decoder and an integrated sound function that reproduces realistic operating sounds. The light changes in white/red depending on the direction using modern LEDs. The interior can be retrofitted with interior lighting and the model is designed for a minimum radius from R2 (228 mm).
With the recommissioning of a complete VT18.16 train by SVT Görlitz gGmbH planned for 2025, this multiple unit will take on new significance. The model from Kato depicts exactly this historic train in the condition of Era VI - a tribute to the past and future use of these famous vehicles.
The scope of delivery includes a 4-car DR VT18.16 multiple unit in N scale with factory-fitted DCC digital technology and sound function.
