The KATO 30-732-1 four-car multiple unit VT18.16 (SVT Görlitz) is a detailed H0 model of one of the best-known express railcars of the Deutsche Reichsbahn. Developed from 1963 at VEB Waggonbau Görlitz, this elegant train was designed for international use. With its streamlined design and high-quality running characteristics, it is a highlight for any Era VI layout.
The VT18.16 series multiple units were intended for cross-border operations right from the start. They traveled to Scandinavia, Austria and Czechoslovakia. The Vindobona train route, which ran via Prague to Vienna, became particularly well known. On the routes to Scandinavia, the trains usually only ran with two middle carriages due to the limited length of the rail ferries.
As Vindobona, the SVT of this series ran to Vienna for the last time in 1979. The reason for this was the high compensation payments to ÖBB, which was no longer able to provide suitable railcars. At the beginning of the 1980s, the last international operations took place as Karlex and Karola to Karlsbad before the trains finally disappeared from international traffic.
The model impresses with its high-quality workmanship, precise printing and exact reproduction of the characteristic lines of the original. The four-part train is manufactured for the scale H0 (1:87) and can be ideally integrated into international express train connections of the Deutsche Reichsbahn.
With the KATO VT18.16, the flair of international express trains of Era VI can be realistically implemented on model railroad layouts. It is the perfect addition to historical passenger trains and offers collectors and model railroaders an impressive highlight.
