The VT18.16 multiple units of the Deutsche Reichsbahn - later known as BR 175 - were the flagship of international long-distance transportation in the GDR. Produced from 1963 by VEB Waggonbau Görlitz, they were used on routes to Scandinavia, Austria and Czechoslovakia. The series became particularly popular with the Vindobona train run, which connected Prague with Vienna. These elegant high-speed railcars were also used in international service under the names Karlex and Karola until the early 1980s. This version in Era VI condition combines classic form with modern digital technology including sound.
The model is designed in H0 scale and is suitable for two-wire direct current (DC) operation. It is digitized at the factory and equipped with a sound function that reproduces typical engine and train noises. The light changes in white/red depending on the direction via LEDs. The model is designed for use on a minimum radius of 358 mm and can therefore also be used realistically on compact layouts.
The VT18.16 multiple unit was once a symbol of the DR's comfort and international orientation. With its characteristic design and flexible train formation - especially for ferries or cross-border operations - it stands for an important era of rail transport. In this Era VI version, the nostalgic appearance is combined with modern digital and sound technology - ideal for demanding model railroaders with an interest in the history of Eastern Bloc rail traffic.
The scope of delivery includes a 4-car DR VT18.16 multiple unit in H0 scale with LED light change, digital control and sound function.
