About the prototype: As part of 3 supply contracts, the Linke-Hofmann-Werke in Breslau produced a total of 14 "Köln" type railcars, which were to be characterized in particular by their high level of comfort. The car numbers are 137 273-278 and 137 851-858. The cars were to be used for express services between major German and international cities, but some of them were badly damaged during the Second World War. Two of the remaining railcars each went to the USA and the USSR and one to the CSD. Railcars 137 273 and 278 were owned by the DR, while the rest remained on the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany and thus came to the DB. The DB modernized the coaches and used them in urban express services until the 1960s, before 4 units were sold to the DR. The last units were finally taken out of service in 1982.
About the model: In this set, Kres is offering a 3-part unit consisting of a powered end seat car, a center car, and a powered end dining car. The individual units have current-conducting couplings, which means that all of the car's lighting functions can be controlled individually. The interior lighting and the toilet lighting can also be set to a random mode. The exterior of the carriages is impressive with precise, true-to-original printing and many very detailed details. A quiet and very powerful motor ensures excellent running performance and that the set can be extended with further carriages without losing performance.
