About the prototype: In the early 1960s, the German State Railroad needed railcars for long-distance service between large cities. However, since the rail network was not yet fully electrified and in some cases in different ways, the decision was made to use diesel-powered combustion railcars. These were built from 1963 by VEB Waggonbau Görlitz in the amount of 8 complete multiple units, 6 additional center cars and 2 reserve railcars. The multiple units were used for international traffic to Scandinavia, Austria and Czechoslovakia and offered increased comfort and better catering than was usually the case in DR trains. The last areas in which the trains were used were the Berlin Zoologischer Garten station-Leipzig Hauptbahnhof connection to the Leipzig Trade Fair and the Berlin-Bautzen express trains in the mid-1980s.
About the model: The model from Kres reproduces a specially painted multiple unit with the inscription of the "Ernst Thälmann" youth club of the GDR. In addition to the precise printing with original car numbers and the special lettering, the model also has excellent running characteristics and a great look. The appearance results from a large number of precisely reproduced structural details, the printing and a very detailed interior, which can be staged with the help of the interior lighting. In addition to the interior lighting, the model has many other lighting functions which can be switched digitally. The model is driven by a bell-shaped armature motor, which provides a high tractive force and at the same time runs very smoothly.
