The prototype:

Type CPwVT-34 standard branch line railcar - VT 135: The development of the two-axle standard branch line railcars VT 135 061 to 132 took place in the mid-1930s by the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft. Between 1937 and 1938, 64 units were delivered to the DRG. No further construction took place in favor of four-axle railcars and due to the outbreak of the Second World War. Despite considerable war losses, several railcars survived. After 1945, 32 units were transferred to the DB, now designated VT 70.9. Five vehicles were transferred to the CSD. Four operational VTs were designated as M 140 301 - 304. The DR in the GDR received 10 units. They were used in Saxony, Mecklenburg and the Altmark. In 1970, 6 units were given the new road numbers 186 004 - 007, 258 and 259. The vehicles were taken out of service in the mid-1970s. The railcar 186 258-0 is preserved in the Halle P depot as a museum vehicle.

The sidecar: A total of 70 CPostv-36 vehicles were built by the Talbot company in 1937 and 1938. At the DRG they were given the numbers VB 140 260 to 329. The vehicles were predominantly used with the VT 135 061 to 132, as they were very similar to these on the outside. After 1945, 30 VBs were put back into service by the DB. The vehicles VB 140 260, 262, 263, 264, 307 and 312 were added to the DR fleet after 1945. Two vehicles were in service with the DR until 1977 and were given the road numbers 190 818 and 190 820. The former VB 140 260 is preserved in museums as 190 118.
