Description

The HGe 4/4 II is a narrow-gauge electric locomotive that is used in both cogwheel and adhesion operation. The first series of 5 locomotives was procured from 1985 by the Furka-Oberalp Railway and the SBB for the narrow-gauge Brünig Railway. With an impressive output of 1,932 kW, which corresponds to around 2,600 hp, and a top speed of 100 km/h or 40 km/h on cogwheel lines, these locomotives set new standards. Due to their successful operation, further locomotives were procured from 1990 onwards. In the end, the SBB and FO each had 8, while the Brig-Visp-Zermatt Railway had 5 in its fleet. These locomotives are still in use today, in particular on the Matterhorn-Gotthard-Bahn (MGB), which emerged from the former FO and BVZ, and on the Zentralbahn, which took over the former SBB-Brünigbahn. Particularly noteworthy is their use to cover the Glacier Express trains between Zermatt and Disentis as well as the car shuttle trains in the Furka tunnel between Oberwald and Realp. In recent years, MGB has begun to modernize the locomotives extensively. In addition to new electronics, the LED headlights and the new paint job are particularly noticeable from the outside. These locomotives will therefore be in service in the Swiss mountains for many years to come.

The model of the HGe 4/4 II electric locomotive of the Matterhorn-Gotthard Railway, as it is still in use today, impresses with its true-to-original paint scheme and lettering of Era VI. The special paint scheme matches the Glacier Express. All 4 wheel sets and two traction cogwheels are driven by two powerful motors with ball bearings. The model is equipped with an mfx/DCC decoder that offers many light and sound functions. The roof pantograph is motor-driven and can be controlled digitally. The length over buffers is an impressive 67 cm.
