RhB ABe 4/4 30 railcar
A total of 14 of these railcars were delivered when the Bernina line opened between 1908 and 1910. In 1943, the Bernina Railway was taken over by the Rhaetian Railway, including these railcars - they had not yet reached the end of their useful life, but their performance left much to be desired. The RhB therefore began to modernize the existing vehicles in its own workshops. The most noticeable changes were the replacement of the lyre hanger with a scissor pantograph and the conversion of the starting and braking resistors, which had previously been located under the carriage floor and were now moved to the roof. With the delivery of new railcars, these vehicles were increasingly relegated to subordinate services, but it was only with the delivery of the new Allegra multiple units in 2010 that they could be taken out of service - at the proud age of 100 years. However, two railcars - numbers 30 and 34 - have survived. Restored to their original condition with the yellow livery, they are still in special service today in front of historic trains.
