The LGB 26254 steam locomotive 99 161 is a precisely reproduced model of a historic steam locomotive of the Saxon State Railways, which was later taken over by the DRG. These type I M locomotives were an important mainstay of railroad traffic in the 1920s and were painted in the typical black and red livery of German steam locomotives. The model is a one-time edition that was released on the occasion of the 120th birthday of locomotive 99 161. With its mfx/DCC decoder and up to 32 switchable functions, it offers impressive performance and attention to detail that will delight both collectors and model railroad fans.
Steam locomotive 99 161 originally belonged to type I M of the Saxon State Railways. These locomotives were taken over by the DRG as 99 161 to 99 163. In the 1920s, the cladding of the locomotives was removed for maintenance reasons, only the cladding of the bogies remained. The locomotives were given the typical black and red livery that characterized the steam locomotives of the time. The 99 163 was lost during the war, but the 99 161 and 99 162 remained in service.
The 99 161 was active with the DR in Reichenbach until 1962, where it was retrofitted with an air brake and a generator for the new electric lighting in the last years of its operation. After the end of operation on the Rollbockbahn, the locomotive was scrapped, while 99 162 was restored to its original condition and preserved as a museum piece. Today, 99 162 can be viewed at the Oberheinsdorf museum station.
The LGB 26254 model is a G gauge garden railroad locomotive and is characterized by its impressive size and detailing. With a length over buffers of 47 cm, it is an impressive model that will catch the eye on any model railroad layout. Thanks to the integrated mfx/DCC decoder, up to 32 functions can be controlled digitally, providing a realistic and versatile playing experience. The pulsed smoke generator, which is integrated into the locomotive and ensures authentic steam development, is particularly noteworthy.
The LGB 26254 steam locomotive 99 161 is not only a technical highlight, but also an important piece of railroad history. As a limited edition to mark the 120th birthday of this locomotive, it is a special collector's item for fans of historic steam locomotives. Its extensive functions and detailed replica make it a must-have for any garden railway layout or collection.
