LGB 36355 G Personenwagen "Mitropa", DR, Ep. IV Product Details

Description

Introduction

The LGB 36355 "Mitropa" passenger car is a real highlight for garden railroaders with an appreciation of historic railroad history. The model is based on a German State Railroad car that originally served as a crew car on the Thum narrow-gauge network. In the mid-1970s, it was transferred to the Cranzahl - Oberwiesenthal line, where it was given a special livery in the style of a saloon car - including "Mitropa" lettering - to mark the 95th anniversary of this line in 1977. Despite its eye-catching design, the car was never operated, but was soon parked and later converted into a baggage car. This model captures this unique development in great detail - a rarity for any collection.

Design & workmanship

The authentic paintwork and lettering of Era IV exactly reflect the prototype of this wagon as it was used for the anniversary celebrations in 1977. The striking "Mitropa" lettering and the design based on a saloon car on the Weißeritz Valley Railway give this model an unmistakable appearance. All platform doors are movable, the interior is fully reproduced and provides a realistic image - whether in operation or in the display case. The high-quality workmanship also makes the car a real eye-catcher on any G-gauge layout.

Historical background

The origin of this wagon lies in its use as a crew wagon for a mining train of the Thum narrow-gauge network. In 1976, it was assigned to the Cranzahl - Oberwiesenthal line, where it was given a new look a year later to mark the 95th anniversary of this line. The carriage was painted red, fitted with "Mitropa" lettering and visually modeled on a saloon car. However, it was never used for catering purposes. Only a short time later, its service life was not extended and the carriage fell into noticeable disrepair. In 1990/91, it underwent a final transformation and was converted into a new luggage coach for the Weißeritztalbahn.

Compatibility & expansion options

Thanks to the standard equipment for the G-gauge, this car can be easily integrated into existing LGB layouts. The stable body, the metal wheelsets and the careful production make it particularly suitable for outdoor use. Anyone wishing to expand their collection of DR vehicles from Era IV or design special train sets will find an authentic addition in this model. In combination with matching locomotives and other DR wagons, the Mitropa wagon can be ideally integrated into themed trains.

Scope of delivery

A fully assembled DR passenger coach in Mitropa design is supplied, equipped with metal wheel sets, a detailed interior and movable doors. The model is immediately ready for operation or exhibition.
