The Swiss Federal Railways (SBB-CFF) have been successfully using the FLIRT (Fast Light Innovative Regional Multiple Unit) from Stadler Rail in local transport for many years. The RABe 521 series is specially designed for cross-border operation in north-western Switzerland and is used on the S-Bahn line S3 between Basel and Porrentruy.
