These cars were designated SSyms Köln. After World War II, many of these cars were transferred to the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB), where they were classified as SSym 46. They were primarily used for transporting coal and were redesignated Sa 705 in 1964. With the introduction of more modern cars beginning in 1983, the cars—now designated Sammp 705—were gradually phased out. However, some of these robust cars continued to be used by various rail companies, including the Steiermärkische Landesbahnen, which operated them as Salmmnp.
