The Liliput L265246 N ÖBB SSy Heavy-Duty Freight Car is a faithful replica of an Austrian heavy-duty freight car from Era III. With its high-quality detailing, included stanchions, crossing plates, and railings, this car is an excellent addition to model railroads depicting freight traffic from the 1960s.
The SSy heavy-duty freight cars were originally developed for the transport of heavy vehicles, machinery, and bulky goods. In the 1950s and 1960s, the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) acquired many of these cars to meet the rising demand for transport capacity driven by industrial growth and post-World War II reconstruction.
The car is based on the frame of the SSy 45 model, which was later further developed into the Rlmmp 700. It was equipped with Deutz standard bogies, which ensured high load-bearing capacity and excellent running characteristics. The operational condition from 1962 shows the cars during a period when they were used for both civilian and military heavy-haul transport.
Epoch III (1945–1970) was a time of economic boom and infrastructure modernization in Austria. The railroad played a central role in the reconstruction of industry and the country’s supply chain. Heavy-duty freight cars such as the SSy series were indispensable for transporting large machinery, transformers, and components.
The manufacturer Liliput is known for its precise replicas of historic rail vehicles. The ÖBB SSy heavy-duty freight car impresses with intricate engravings, exquisite printing, and a realistic reproduction of its components. The car has a length over buffers of 67.5 mm and is equipped with a NEM 355 coupler mount as well as close-coupling kinematics. These ensure safe operation and allow for easy coupling with other cars.

The car features the classic, period-appropriate color scheme of the Austrian Federal Railways. The finely applied car numbers and technical markings correspond exactly to the prototype vehicles of the early 1960s.
This heavy-duty car is ideal for heavy-haul trains, construction trains, or military transport. It can be used as a single car or in combination with other freight cars. This car really comes into its own, particularly at freight yards, industrial facilities, or switching tracks.
To ensure the model remains in perfect condition over the long term, it should be cleaned regularly. Dust can be carefully removed with a soft brush or compressed air spray. The axles and couplings should be checked occasionally and lubricated with special model railroad oil.
