The Liliput L265260 N SSy 45 "F.F.A." Heavy-Duty Freight Car is a highly detailed replica of a heavy-duty freight car from the early postwar period. Originally manufactured by Flugzeug- und Fahrzeugwerke Altenrhein (F.F.A.) and later put into service by the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB), this car was used to transport heavy machinery, vehicles, and large industrial components. With its precise printing, intricate details, and high-quality running characteristics, this model is a valuable addition to Era III model railroads.
The SSy 45 heavy-duty freight cars were developed in the 1940s and 1950s to safely transport large and heavy loads across the rail network. The variant shown here was built by the Swiss company Flugzeug- und Fahrzeugwerke Altenrhein (F.F.A.) and later taken over by the Deutsche Bundesbahn.
The car is based on the frame of the SSy 45, which was later further developed into the Rlmmp 651. It was equipped with Deutz standard bogies, which offered high load-bearing capacity and excellent running characteristics. The car had a plank floor without stanchions, making it particularly versatile for various types of transport. To further secure the load, a 3-post railing and crossing plates were included to ensure vehicles could be loaded safely.
The road number 961.982 indicates that this car was in active service with the DB in 1955, when numerous heavy-duty cars like this were used to support the growing industry and reconstruction efforts.
Era III (1945–1970) was a time of modernization and economic recovery. The demand for heavy-haul transport grew enormously as industry was rebuilt and large machines or components had to be transported by rail. The Deutsche Bundesbahn acquired numerous heavy-haul cars, including some that had originally been built for military purposes.
The renowned manufacturer Liliput impresses with precise model replicas that captivate with their fine printing, high-quality engravings, and excellent running characteristics. The L265260 model features a highly detailed recreation of the prototype and is a realistic addition for all model railroaders who wish to recreate the heavy-haul traffic of the 1950s.
The car has a length over buffers of 67.5 mm and is equipped with a NEM 355 coupler mount as well as close-coupling kinematics. These features enable a secure connection with other cars and ensure reliable operation.
The standard Deutz bogies offer excellent running characteristics and high load-bearing capacity. Thanks to the plank floor without stanchions, the model can be loaded in a variety of ways. The included 3-post railings and crossing plates allow for a realistic representation of military or industrial heavy transports.
The model features the brown color scheme typical of the Deutsche Bundesbahn during Era III. The applied road numbers and technical markings correspond exactly to the prototypes from the 1950s. Fine engravings and bracing ensure a particularly realistic appearance.
The SSy 45 heavy-haul car is ideal for heavy-haul transports, industrial trains, and military transports. It can be used both individually and in combination with other heavy-haul cars. This car really comes into its own especially in freight yards, industrial facilities, or loading stations.
To ensure the model remains in perfect condition over the long term, it should be cleaned regularly. Dust can be carefully removed with a soft brush or compressed air spray. The axles and couplings should be checked occasionally and lubricated with special model railroad oil.
The Liliput L265260 N Heavy-Duty Freight Car SSy 45 "F.F.A." is an indispensable model for all model railroaders who want to realistically recreate Era III heavy haulage. With high-quality details, a prototypical design, and excellent running characteristics, this model offers the highest quality for both collecting and play.
