TUI Ferienexpress for Package Tours by Rail

In the late 1970s, TUI decided to have its own passenger cars built so it could offer vacationers a one-stop solution for traveling to their vacation destinations. Starting in 1978, these newly built train sets entered service, connecting Hamburg and Dortmund, among other cities, with major vacation regions.

Travelers were greeted at their destination stations by local tour guides and were then often transported by bus to their vacation accommodations. In doing so, the TUI Ferienexpress adopted a concept that many vacationers were already familiar with from package tours by air.
