The Märklin 38290 class MZ diesel locomotive brings the powerful look and technology of Scandinavian general-purpose locomotives to the model railroad layout. In a red and black paint scheme and equipped with numerous details, this model reflects the condition of the third construction series from the 1970s and 1980s. The prototype was manufactured by NOHAB in Trollhättan, Sweden, and was a defining element in the long-distance and freight service of the Danish State Railways (DSB) for decades.
The model impresses with a centrally installed high-performance drive that drives two axles per bogie via cardan shafts. Thanks to traction tires, the locomotive can also reliably handle heavy train loads. The built-in mfx+ digital decoder offers numerous sound and light functions and makes the locomotive the ideal choice for digital layout operation.
For added realism, a smoke generator is fitted as standard to emphasize the powerful appearance of this locomotive. The three-light headlights and two red marker lights change depending on the direction of travel and can be switched digitally. The cab and driver's desk lighting can also be controlled separately digitally. Warm white and red LEDs provide harmonious illumination.
The locomotive is made of heavy metal and has numerous attached metal grab rails. The driver's cabs and engine room are designed with a detailed relief interior. With a length of 24.1 cm over buffers and the NEM-compliant buffer height, this model is ideally suited for demanding model railroad operation in Era IV.
