Description

Märklin 38420 H0 Re 4/4 II Electric Locomotive: Elegance and Technology of the Swiss Express

The Märklin 38420 H0 Re 4/4 II electric locomotive is a precise reproduction of the iconic electric locomotive of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB). This locomotive from the 1st construction series in a pebble gray/blood orange basic paint scheme represents the era of the Swiss Express starting in 1975 and is a masterpiece of detail and technology. The completely new design, combined with modern digital technology, makes this model an indispensable highlight for demanding model railroaders.

The prototype: Re 4/4 II electric locomotive

The Re 4/4 II of the first construction series was one of the most versatile and successful electric locomotives of the SBB. With its powerful technology and elegant paint scheme, it became the train locomotive of the famous Swiss Express. The road number 11141 is one of the best-known locomotives of this series, which stands out due to its striking scissor pantographs and innovative design.

Märklin - Perfection in technology and design

This model is a completely new design and shows Märklin's claim to precision and innovation. The body is made of high-quality metal, while numerous applied details such as handle bars and the reproduction of the automatic coupler make the model authentic. With the mfx+ decoder, the locomotive offers extensive light and sound functions, while a buffer memory ensures uninterrupted operation.

Technical Highlights of the Märklin 38420

The locomotive has controlled high-efficiency propulsion with a centrally installed flywheel that drives all four axles via cardan shafts. Traction tires provide optimum tractive effort. The Swiss light change system shows a three-light headlamp depending on the direction of travel and a white marker light that can be switched to a red marker light when the locomotive is running solo. Shunting, warning and wrong way signals can also be controlled digitally. The cab and engine room lighting as well as the roof superstructures with newly designed scissor pantographs round off the model.

Flexibility and expansion options

The model is equipped with kinematics-guided close couplers and corresponds to the NEM buffer height. Attachable parts such as brake lines, sockets and filling pieces for the rail scraper allow individual design. Matching Swiss Express passenger cars can be found under item numbers 42190 and 42191, while the "Sputnik" switching coupler cars are available under item number 46850. This model is available as a Trix version for DC railroaders under item number 25420.

Recommendation for model railroaders

The Märklin 38420 H0 Re 4/4 II electric locomotive is an absolute must for all fans of Swiss railroading. With its elegant appearance, high-quality workmanship, and versatile functions, this locomotive will be an eye-catcher on any model railroad layout.
