The Märklin 38801 class 186 "Ceneri" electric locomotive is a highly detailed new construction in metal design and represents a current locomotive of the Akiem SAS, leased to SBB Cargo International. With its light gray basic paint scheme and the differently designed side surfaces, it is a striking eye-catcher in Era VI rail operations. The operating condition corresponds to the year 2022.

Prototype and use

The class 186 belongs to the TRAXX family of modern multi-system locomotives and is used in international freight and passenger service. The locomotive 186 904-9 bears the name "Ceneri" and is in service in Switzerland, Italy and Germany. It symbolizes the efficiency and versatility of modern freight locomotives and is equipped with country-specific special signs for cross-border use.

Model Highlights

The Märklin class 186 is a completely new design with the finest metal construction and numerous separately applied details such as grab irons, sandboxes, UIC sockets and roof lines. The newly designed pantographs with different collector strips for Germany, Switzerland and Italy are particularly striking. The model is equipped with buffer storage, which makes it easy to bridge short power outages.

Digital equipment

The model is equipped with an mfx+ digital decoder and has extensive operating and sound functions. These include a controlled high-performance drive with flywheel mass, driving sounds, signal horns, shunting functions and more. High beam, cab and driver's desk lighting can be controlled separately digitally. The headlights on both sides of the locomotive and the double A light can also be controlled individually. The lighting is provided by warm white and red LEDs.

Technical features

The locomotive is powered by a centrally installed high-performance drive with a flywheel. All four axles are driven by cardan shafts, two axles have traction tires for optimum tractive power. The three-light headlights change over with two red marker lights depending on the direction of travel. The buffer height complies with the NEM standard. The scope of delivery includes separately attachable brake lines, screw couplers, sockets and closed rail scrapers.

Use on the model railroad

With a length of 21.7 cm, the BR 186 "Ceneri" is perfectly proportioned and suitable for radii from 360 mm. It is ideal for modern freight trains in international traffic between Germany, Switzerland and Italy and sets new standards on the H0 layout with its numerous functions and fine design.
