The class E 95 electric locomotive is one of the most impressive developments in German locomotive construction - and this is exactly the feeling that the Märklin 38950 model brings to your H0 layout. If you are looking for a powerful, historic and at the same time technically fascinating locomotive, then this model is just the thing. Märklin has faithfully reproduced a milestone in railroad history and combines impressive looks with modern technology. The massive appearance and the striking design make this locomotive a real eye-catcher in operation and in the collection.
The Märklin 38950 represents the class E 95 heavy freight electric locomotive of the German State Railroad Company (DRG). The model is constructed in the H0 scale and shows the locomotive with the road number E 95 01 in condition around 1928. The blue-gray basic paint scheme emphasizes the historic character of this unusual locomotive.
It is a completely new construction in a high-quality metal design. The drive is particularly noteworthy: There is a high-performance drive with flywheel mass in each half of the locomotive, with two driving wheel sets being driven in each case. The special design of the E 95 as a double locomotive is thus consistently implemented in the model.
The model is equipped with a Spielewelt mfx+ digital decoder and extensive light and sound functions. The pantographs can be raised and lowered digitally, which provides additional dynamics in operation. The cab and engine room lighting can also be switched digitally and offer realistic insights into the inner workings of the locomotive.
An integrated buffer memory ensures that short power outages are reliably bridged. This ensures that operation remains stable and uninterrupted.
The design of this model is based exactly on the historical prototype. The striking front ends, which give the original its almost fearsome appearance, have been precisely implemented. Numerous attached details further enhance the realistic impression. The high-quality metal design not only ensures stability, but also an authentic weight and a convincing feel.
The special design of the locomotive as a double locomotive is impressively represented in the model and makes it a highlight on any layout. Especially in combination with matching freight wagons, a harmonious overall picture is created.
Only six of the E 95 series were put into service by the Deutsche Reichsbahn in 1927. With a continuous output of over 3200 HP, a length of more than 20 meters and a weight of 138.5 tons, it was one of the most powerful electric locomotives of its time. The price of 543,000 Reichsmark also made it one of the most expensive locomotives in Germany.
It was designed for heavy coal block trains on the Silesian network, which carried loads of up to 2200 tons every day. The design as a double locomotive made the necessary number of drive axles possible. In operation, the E 95 impressed with its high mileage and reliability. Later, it was also used in front of passenger trains when the demand for coal declined.
One example, the E 95 02, has survived to this day, which underlines the importance of this series for railroad history.
The Märklin 38950 is ideally designed for use in front of heavy coal block trains. It looks especially harmonious in combination with large-capacity self-unloading cars of the type OOt Oldenburg. Its imposing appearance makes it ideal as a locomotive for long and impressive freight trains.
Thanks to the NEM-compliant buffer height, the model can be easily integrated into existing vehicle fleets. The locomotive not only brings power to the tracks, but also a piece of authentic railroad history.
The Märklin E 95 combines historical significance with modern model technology and high-quality workmanship. The combination of detailed metal design, digitally controllable functions and the impressive appearance makes this model a real highlight for every collection and layout.
If you are looking for an unusual electric locomotive that is both visually and technically impressive, then this model is an excellent addition. Get a piece of German locomotive history on your layout with the Märklin 38950 and experience the fascination of heavy freight train traction in the model.
