New Item 2026: For the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States of America, Märklin is releasing a special edition of the legendary Union Pacific Railroad steam locomotive Big Boy 4000 limited to 1,776 units worldwide. This locomotive comes with a certificate of authenticity and has a consecutive serial number. The special feature: numerous metal parts such as the driving wheel sets, tender body, boiler upper section and the enclosed slider are coated with 24 carat fine gold. This collector's item not only embodies American railroad history, but also high-quality model making in H0.
The Series 4000 steam locomotive, better known as the Big Boy, was developed for heavy freight train operation in the USA. It is one of the longest and most powerful steam locomotives ever built. Its massive construction and the double cylinder arrangement at the front and rear made it a technical milestone. The model presented here represents the condition of this locomotive in eras II to III.
The model has a Spielewelt mfx+ digital decoder and offers a total of 27 operating and sound functions. These include typical steam locomotive sounds, bell, whistle, driving noise and other effects. The LED lighting is white depending on the direction of travel. The locomotive has interior lighting and a prepared smoke generator connection. The buffer capacitor ensures uninterrupted operation even on sections of track without power.
The fine detailing of the locomotive is particularly noteworthy. In addition to the gold-plated surface, the attached grab irons, brake hoses and shunting couplings also provide a prototypical appearance. The model has a metal chassis and body, which has a positive effect on the running characteristics and the overall impression. The buffer height complies with NEM standards and the couplers can be adapted using the KK kinematics.
With only 1,776 units produced worldwide, this model is not only a visual highlight, but also a top-class collector's item with real rarity value. The Big Boy 4000 in this configuration is only available in the anniversary year and comes with a numbered certificate of authenticity. A special highlight for any model railroader with a penchant for US railroad history.
